Should Mr.Shivraj Patil Quit?

leave a comment »

shivrajpatil 26th Novemeber  2008  rocked Mumbai, India and the whole world. One more entry to India’s long list of terror strikes. What is happening? The event was a clear indication of the negligence of the intelligence and a weak effort by the Home Minister. Should Shivraj Patil call himself responsible for not being able to provide India and Indians a safe and secured country? Should he quit – Is the question?

Indian public needs to show the politicians that their negligence is going to cost them their power.

ViewsNest was too fast to launch the debate to capture public views on this topic. The debate is still on @ viewsnest.com

This is what some of our current debaters had to say on this -

Oink says “ The point i wish to make is that while the home minister is very much responsible for this tragedy, he is not being helped by the very system that he functions in. Let us assume, as a hypothesis, that Mr. Patil is exactly how we all want him to be. Tough, sincere and highly motivated to ensure the citizens’ safety, doing his job meticulously. I want to ask you all, how do you think he would have prevented this attack, had he had all the above mentioned qualities, if the system itself is stagnant? Obviously, replacing the entire system is impossible. He cannot fire everyone and recruit completely new people. a good system comes over a period of time much longer than the tenure of a typical politician in power.

The blame is not just with Mr Patil. It is with every individual, all groups of people, all organizations that are not doing their allotted duties with sincerity. It is time to cleanse the system, instead of asking some politician to accept blame and step down.”
Vinay counter attacks by saying – “ Well I dont think that its because of terrorist intelegence that they are succeeding but because of our negligence. When India losses match against Any cricket team people gather infront of every cricketer’s house and burn their effigy but what about this terrorist blast where so many innocent people are killed.I personally donot entertain burning effigy and shouting loud on streets but our politician who are failing to protect the life of innocent citizen should either act or please leave this position of resposibilty.I don’t understand if they don’t feel guilty or ashamed of their incapability.”

The debate is still on and needs to till every Indian is aware of what is behind it. Please log your view at http://www.viewsnest.com/story.php?title=should-shivraj-patil-take-responsibility-and-quit

Anti-smoking advertisements does more harm than good?

leave a comment »

smoking Dr. Ramadoss has been on the news because of a number reasons. He started off with banning smoking in all public places, corporates, pubs so on and so forth. After flagging this initiative starting Oct 2nd, Dr. Ramadoss went on to announce that all cigarette packets would contain images of damages that smoking causes.

All such awareness campaigns and many more have both pros and cons. There is one school of thought which believes such campaigns does more harm than good while many believe such campaigns atleast help newcomers to avaoid. What is the public opinion on this? ViewsNest conducted a debate and following is the result to date.

This is what Jalim Singh had to say – “So the essence of my point is that although giving it a notorious fame the steps taken by ramadoss are giving fame to cigarette and who said that in india cigarettes were earlier considered good , they never were , they were always a representation of the Bad guy for the immature person and for the mature person the ads didn’t made any difference “

To this Invinsible argued by saying – “ Smoking is addiction, people may not quit it but certainly there is a drift in mindset. Earlier you could smoke anywhere – remember trains had in buit ashtray in it, but ever since ban is there, it is less fashionable to smoke. Credit goes to various campaigns.
Advertisement for a good cause is not a product promotion strategy that will increase or decrease sale. It is an effort to change mindset and it takes generations to change the mindset.”

According to ViewsNest team the best comment came from Shoonya – “ I don’t think that these kinds of ads are helpful in creating awareness. It may help to people who are going to join the smoker’s club, but then there is big “may”. I have rarely seen a person quitting smoke because of this reason. And about the ban in public places, I can personally testify that people have now found a new place to smoke just behind the office premises. And yess, it’s great to see people of different firms fagging together spreading “sutta harmony”

Manmohan the weakest PM of India?

leave a comment »

manmohan_singh_199455A comment made by Mr. Lal Krishna Advani again during a election rally in Jabalpur on 11th Nov triggered ViewsNest Admin to launch a debate on it. Enough has been said about the unelected leader of the nation and it was time to know what public image or perception he carries.

ViewsNest saw enough of people arguing on this and it was indeed a hot debate. But on the whole it was healthy discussion.

The debate started off with “orange” going for the big hit from the first delivery – He/She had to say that “Yes, I think Manmohan is what Sonia Gandhi wants him to. This is a simple case of mockery of our system. Why does he always have to say that “I will ask Sonia Ji about this.” He is just the face and Sonia the brain”

“Symphony” came about strong saying that -

The strength or weekness of a Prime Minister is not judged to see the people he takes suggestion from but with the results he/she comes with. Manmohan Singh has his team from the intellecuals who analyze the situations, get the proper data and make a proper planning. It’s not only about one man sitting at top but about the people working under him. I believe what Manmohan Singh has done, very few Indian Prime Ministera have done it. Such as tackling the financial crisis is the biggest problem across world for which in India, the steps to cut the repo rate(by RBI on behalf of Government), CRR rate is a magnificent job. Sitting along with the top Industrials of India including Tata, Ambani and coming to the financial solution are never the signs of a week prime minister. It’s very similar to Obama who talks with Warren Buffet and Bill Gates about American financial crisis, and is well famous throughout world to be the strongest President ever. Manmohan Singh has done quite a utilitarian job by bringing up Nuclear deal to India which will solve the energy crisis and give employment to lakhs of citizens. I firmly believe that Mr. Manmohan Singh has proved to be one of the best Prime Ministera of India

According to ViewsNest Moderators the best argument came from “Ripple” – “The essential thing is to define in some sense what a ‘powerful PM’ means. Dear friends, a powerful prime minister is not one who is able to take ‘strong’ and forceful decisions, but a leader who even in the face of the adversity remains balanced and takes appropriate decisions. Further, he is not someone who makes people happy with his words, but someone who rather lets his actions speak.

Given the above, lets evaluate Mr. MM Singh. No doubt, the bomb blasts are catastrophic and it is the responsibility of the government to ensure public safety. But, do we expect PM to go after the criminals himself? Or is it the lack of public statements that he made on the issue of blasts? Well, to his credit he simply let home minister do his job and did not jump in.

A present crisis, for example- the financial meltdown. The kind of positive and confident signals that are emanating from our PM are quite calming. It really helps to know that the reigns are in the hands of learned economist!

On the issue of N Deal : Well, I beg to differ, but it is not a “luxury” at all! Nuclear energy is something that is a big potential source of energy to tap into. Future planning. And at a minimal price-just reflect on the deliverables of India. We even have the worst case option of continued nuclear proliferation, in face of necessity- what else could you ask for?! This is a input to infrastructural development, not something apart from it.

As far as the comments about Mrs. Gandhi’s involvement is concerned, it is natural for world leaders to meet the head of the ruling parties….happens everywhere! It is more like we see what we want to see. We have the picture of PM’s alleged ‘subordination’ and we ry to fit everything into that. An open minded analysis would clearly reveal the contrary.

So, in affect, Mr. MM Singh is NOT India’s weakest PM ever….that too by far
